How is setting up a cellular plan for my Apple Watch different than pairing it with my phone?

If your Apple Watch has a cellular plan, it gets its own connection to the Boost Mobile Network. You can use data and apps or make calls without being near your iPhone or connected to Wi-Fi.

Without a cellular plan, you can still access all of these features. Just remember, your watch will need to stay connected to your phone via Bluetooth.

Can I set up a cellular plan on my Apple Watch and use the same phone number from my iPhone?

Absolutely! When you are setting up your Apple Watch, make sure you choose Set up for Myself. Your watch will use the phone number of the iPhone it’s paired with to access services. You’ll be able to make and receive calls, exchange messages, share your location and use cellular data from your watch.

Can I set up a cellular plan on my Apple Watch and use a different phone number not associated with my iPhone?

Of course! When you are setting up your Apple Watch, make sure you choose Set up for a Family Member. Your Apple Watch will not use the phone number of your paired iPhone and will instead use its own number. It will be able to make and receive calls, exchange messages and use data all with its own cellular plan. This setup, known as Apple Watch For Your Kids, lets you manage the settings of an Apple Watch for a family member or child who does not have their own iPhone.
